The Club’s Opening Day was held October 18, with over 100 people attending the afternoon session when the Lord Mayor, Lisa Scaffidi, officially opened the 117th playing season of the club.
Other invited dignitaries included Mr Michael Sutherland, MLA for Mt Lawley and Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Mr Geoff Quinlan, CEO of Tennis West, Mr Gavan Sullivan, President of Tennis Seniors and Councillor Jim Adamos from the City of Perth.
During the Opening Ceremony, the Hopman Cup was on display and the Lord Mayor unveiled a portrait painting of Margaret Court that had been entered into the Archibald prize by local artist Sim’ Campbell-Pope.
The Governor, the Honourable Kerry Sanderson, AO, the Club’s patron, attended the afternoon tea session and presented the Tennis League shields and club towels to the three winning winter pennant teams. Councillor Keith Yong from the City of Perth also attended afternoon tea which included the traditional scones with jam and cream.
The handicap tournament run during the rounds of tennis was won by Jan Madison and Adrian Menescu, who each picked up a bottle of French champagne.
The evening function, held in the Next Gen café, was attended by 59 guests and, together with the band of Simon and Gary, everybody enjoyed a memorable evening.
